Does the final movement of Belkis have the off stage trumpet?

Ashkenazy doesn't which is far less atmospheric.

Oue on Reference Recordings goes one better with a solo tenor but I'm guessing it not an option on this new recording.

Yes, the distant trumpet is played beautifully from the left of the orchestra and a long way back (or up!). It makes a strong contrast with the brutality of the dance.

I was interested in this release after reading Geohominid's review, but was surprised to discover that Amazon.com isn't carrying it. However, it is being offered by other Amazon sites. I wonder why.

Because they haven't had time as yet. It was officially released June 10.

Yet another reason to download imo.
I got it at irresistable bargain price when it was uploaded. And not only is it nice, easy listening, but also very realistically and naturally balanced.
Respighi really was a master orchestrator,a fact clearly on display in these works. And in Belkis he didn't hide that he had studied with Rimsky Korsakow,Scheherazade makes a brief visit.
Those who find the Exton SACD the best recorded SACD of these works will maybe be a bit disappointed because there is none of the exaggerated spotmiking,to impress on the boombox crowd here.
I on the other hand, find the balancing in this release, perfect. This is very much how an orchestra sounds live in a real hall.
Absolutely coherent with lots of both depth and width to the image.
Maybe not the most challenging works composed from the same period.
But well worth hearing for those who want to indulge in sheer orchestral beauty very well recorded.
And as pointed out in the review very nice appropriate cover too.
Morpho and an owl butterfly if I am not wrong. Makes me long back to the tropics again.
