Not all bad trombones. Used to play it; nice mellow instrument, but, of course, can be loud.

A topic guaranteed to stir me from apathy!

For this regular concertgoer stereo performed by a truly high end system with vinyl LP source can deliver 85% of the acoustic of the live performance with a very great deal of the accuracy.

I have yet to hear a mch system that can match this in any respect. Sounding spacious and different isn't the be all and end all of music reproduction. Sadly for mch fans 'they' have yet to find a way of doing it on vinyl.

One can implement the Hafler approach for a 2-ch vinyl system and get a remarkably lifelike and enveloping sound that brings you much closer to the concert venue than mere 2-ch alone. I know 'cause I've done it (back when I still had my vinyl rig).

Yup, those occasional vinyl pops and clicks sound just like the guy in the row ahead of me who always picks the ppp parts to unwrap his hard candy. Highly realistic!

And the hiss and rumble perfectly replicate the whirring of indoor air-conditioning fans and traffic passing by outside the hall, respectively.

Is it possible that you're conflating accuracy with the kinds of vinyl distortions you have a nostalgia for?

I regularly attend concerts too, and I don't seem to recall that the sound deteriorates at the end of each half as it does when I get to the inner grooves of a vinyl LP. But perhaps I'm not listening closely enough. ;-)

I'm with you on that, Chris but ironically, as SACD plants are scarcer than hen's teeth, another vinyl pressing plant makes it debut: http://audaud.com/2015/07/audio-news-for-july-7-2015-2/

It was probably built to handle the recent "50%" increase in vinyl sales (i.e., from 1.0% of the market to 1.5% of the market!). Woo-hoo! ;-)
