Now that's great news. But remember that the cd release was somewhat strange. Love me do was included; # 17 in the UK. Strawberry Fields, a #1 with Penny Lane (two A-sides) was excluded. A horrible decision by EMI which now has come to punish them in the shape of Warner Br.

Wait. Penny Lane *is* included on 1. I should know, I was playing the album just days ago, when I stumbled upon the news of the reissue.

Note also that the Japanese versions of the new reissue will have the CD disc in SHM-CD flavour.

Also available through Amazon UK; on import I suppose.

That's because Penny Lane went to number 1 in the U.S. , where it was not released as a double A side with Strawberry Fields. I think Arell's point was that Strawberry Fields had been left off.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say.

For Mark and others, who have clearly figured out this variety of Beatles 1 releases, here is my question:

Is the plain single-BD version that Amazon currently offers for $22.50 all that one needs if what is required is hi-res multichannel versions of all tracks?

thanks

No. There are tracks in MC on the second BR that are not on the first disk, good songs too.

Do the video discs contain the (multichannel) tracks also in audio-only format(s) or just in combination with video?

Asked Sam on Twitter about the dts-ma 5.1 and he confirmed to me it's all 24/96.

I just watched the 2 BD-Vs and I'm afraid I'm disappointed. The video quality is probably as good as it's going to be so full marks there, but the surround mix is far from discrete: that's what's disappointing.

It seemed like the rear channels were utilised in the same sort of ambient way rears are often used with multichannel classical releases, although with a few exceptions: Within You, Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows seemed more discrete - perhaps it was a copy and paste from the Love album - and Free as a Bird and Real Love seemed more discrete too. Apart from these songs however, the multichannel mixes for the rest seemed average at best and as Amazon allow returns, I'm sending it back for a refund because it's not what I hoped and expected.

If you want to watch good quality footage of The Beatles in stereo, you'll probably enjoy this release; if you want to enjoy The Beatles in surround sound however, all you need is LOVE

Thanks Derek,

My threads on Facebook are all over the place, hating and returning to loving. Mine arrived yesterday, I got the Deluxe Edition, CD and 2 Blu Rays.

Now I am afraid to listen for fear of disappointment. Going to ride my bicycle instead and let the wind flush out my ears.
