I hope (or is that suspect?) that this is Universal dipping its toes into single inventory releases to monitor margin costs etc before making a decision one way or the other.

Only the hybrid SACD is released, not a separate CD and hybrid SACD.

Like I said before, I bet Salonen and the LAPO insisted that the disc be a SACD since all the other American orchestras that are regularly recording are releasing SACDs.

It is interesting to contemplate the positive effect the success of the SFO Mahler cycle has had on the SACD market. I wouldn't mind if every significant orchestra started its own company and released SACD's. The RCO series is spectacular sounding.

I'll be buying this release. I'm still looking for the "ultimate" Rite. Let's hope these orchestral-led labels get more adventurous in programming choices.

Preferably delegating the technical part to Polyhymnia!

Should I now chime in: "amen"?

I was just listening to the Ivan Fischer Dvorak Slavonic dances last night - how much nicer the sound than on some subsequent Philips discs. Polyhymnia really knows what they are doing.

i'm not generally a rattle fan, but his rite on the "rhythm is it" SACD with the berlin phil is extremely impressive in many ways, not least the frequently staggering playing.

it's very well recorded too in MC format. i expect you've probably got it already?
