This is presumably the same recording as the Japanese issue on Cryston. If so, it's a great disc ... more playful than the Civil/Marriner recording.

The Cryston disc is a lovely recording: understated, golden-toned horn, backed by an orchestra with lots of bass "omph". It helps that van Zelm doesn't drag down the tempi. I have Clevenger on CBS Records (1986) for comparison; in the 3rd concerto its 16:36 (Clevenger) vs 14:23 (van Zelm). The contrast of sacd sound to rbcd is brutal.

I can imagine a superaudio recording of these works with a bit more brilliance to the horn sound, but this disc is damned fine. Of course, some of the sounds the horn makes are giggle-worthily rude....
