I'm surprised my Whitehall's dismissal of this - to me it is a classic for performance and sound and it has been on my SACD's players many times. Highly recommended, if you like guitar and appreciate live recordings.

Has anyone heard the version with bonus tracks and explicit lyrics? ;-)

So I was not too put off by the recording that I rated so low - I even recently attended a DiMeola performance at Yoshi's in Oakland.

I left before the end of the first set.

Others in the audience seemed to enjoy it but it bored me to tears.

To each their own.

So who were you expecting: Pepe Romero?

Yes, silly of me, I understand. Mostly, it was a "let's go out on the town - who's playing and where?" decision. I recognized the name and went for it.

Some music is just incomprehensible to some people. No value judgment in this case but an honest reaction. I'm the same way with Shostakovich.

DiMeola is a guitar virtuoso who dazzles with his prodigious fret work and if you're just not into that type of music (fusion, whatever)...........no need to worry.

But I do love the work of Shostakovich and DiMeola and John McLaughlin and Jeff Beck, Stanley Jordan, etc. because they display passion and soul in their music...........
