i wonder what year this performance comes from, is it live, is it multichannel, and what kind of resolution it was originally recorded in?

I believe it will be a stereo/MCH release.

is that an expression of faith or a statement of certitude? (either way i hope you're right!).

A bit of both! I'm fairly sure from earlier conversations with Hänssler that they are only going to release SACD's in stereo/MCH hybrid's - there is always the possibility that my memory proves fallible though.

Right, now I've got it in my hands I can confirm that it is a MCH/Stereo hybrid release, recorded live (but no applause); no details about the recording type (i.e. DSD) explicitly but they did use a Sonopress to master this release.
Initial impressions are that the sound is spectacular (just as this music deserves) in a natural way; the reading may be a little relaxed for all tastes.
A review is to follow...

Well, after listening to this set through a couple of times illustrates the dangers of just flitting about for favourite highlights. As a whole it is a very warm and convincing reading with a few minor blemishes (not entirely unexpected for this gargantuan score!) Hänssler look to have given us yet another mighty choral epic.
The sound is unquestionably first rate - it quite supersedes anything you'll have heard on any other medium.
I am having trouble taking this one out of the player (but I must because my family needs the sleep!)
