Monsieur Huss lives, I understand, in Canada.

See this review: http://www.classicstoday.com/review.asp?ReviewNum=11756 for various amusing* reasons.

You may find his writings in the Montreal based journal:

Spano's recording is welcomed, because there aren't many SACDs. Sometimes this sounds very heavy. My own favorite is Sir Simon Rattle's performance (Warner Classics). Any comments?

I have most of those available on Mch SACD. The Spano is not near the top of my list. I had some sonic issues with it in Mch. It also failed to impress me interpretively. My current favorite, sonically and interpretively is the Levine/BSO. My very favorite interpretation is the old Shaw/Atlanta, but the RBCD sonics are passé now.

It has been awhile, but I have gotten the impression that perhaps some Telarcs do strange things with the .1 channel in 5.1. I am now able to graphically monitor all individual channel levels concurrently on the fly, and I have seen some inexplicable things on a few Telarcs. I have not tried monitoring this release, but I will. The last time I played it some time ago, I recall an overly hot organ in the deep pedal registers, which was annoying, actually. I have noted similar effects on a few other Telarcs, but nothing similar on any other labels. The investigation continues.

Speaking of just the organ, I am quite impressed with its balance, focus and articulation in the Levine, which strikes me as "just right", about the best in that regard I can recall on any recording. Though that is perhaps a micro issue in the overall scheme of things, I like the way it is clearly there when it should be, yet never overly prominent. Particularly in older recordings, the organ is often too vague and indistinguishable from orchestra and chorus.
