Does anyone know anything about Arabella Steinbacher, other than that she, like Julia Fischer, is a former Ana Chumchenko pupil, has recorded for Orfeo, is using the same Strad (the Booth Strad - on loan from the Nippon Foundation) that Julia Fischer used to make her Russian Violin Concerto disc and that she has signed on with PentaTone?

Her initial PentaTone recordings will be both Bartok violin concerti and the Dvorak all conducted by Janowski. The Bartok will be with OSR. If the webcast of Fischer playing these concerti (in the same concert!) last April is any indication, the orchestral contribution at least, will be spectacular. Lets hope Steinbacher can (at least partially) fill Fischer's shoes!

Sydney residents can hear her play the Korngold at the end of the month. If you're in Pittsburgh in the third week of October you can hear the Bruch Scottish Fantasia.

I saw her live performing Schostaowich´s first violin concerto in Prague two years ago. I photographed her and spoke to her about SACD .
She said that she was recording for Orfeo at that time but would talk with her agent about my suggestions.
Good to hear that she has signed on with Pentatone

I saw her give an excellent performance of the Sibelius concerto in March with the European Community Youth Orchestra and Ashkenazy. She should be a major addition to PentaTone's artist roster.

A classic debut:

"The second piece of the afternoon was Mendelssohn's beautiful and popular Violin Concerto in E minor. Initially, this was to be performed by Nicola Benedetti who unfortunately was suffering from back problems and had to be replaced at the last minute by young German violinist Arabella Steinbacher. Ms Steinbacher did not change the programme even though she stepped in at very short notice and she gave one of the best interpretations of Mendelssohn's concerto that I have ever heard."

Hello Chris,

I'm a real Arabella Steinbacher freak and try to visit every concert which is not too far away. Furthermore I've followed her career since 2003 and collected lots of programs, CDs, internet reviews, internet photos and so on.
How can I get a copy of Your Steinbacher photos ? You can contact me under
duerrlemarck@aol.com. Thanks and many greetings from Stuttgart: Martin

p.s.: In my opinion she is one of the top violinists worldwide !

On March 13th I was fortunate to hear Steinbacher in recital at Middlebury College in Vermont. The experience was well worth the two and a half hour trip! She is dynamite. I spoke with her after the concert and although PentaTone's newsletter announcing that they had signed her on said that the first recordings would be of the Dvorak and the two Bartok concertos, apparently that has changed.

Of the October release of the Dvorak / Szymanowski concertos we are aware. The second release, if what she told me materializes, will be a very pleasant surprise for some here. I will defer to Giel Bessels to reveal that however.

Of the recital, Consisting of works by Beethoven, Schnittke Bach and Ravel, I will pass on to you some comments made by the friend with whom I traveled up from Albany. He is the chair of the Artist Selection Committee of Troy Chromatic Concerts.

After the Beethoven, I asked him, well what do you think? His response: "Wow! She's the real deal!"

Later, during intermission after the Schnittke Sonata. "Man she really gets the music across."

During the meeting of the Board of Directors of Troy Chromatic Concerts, recommending that we engage her next season: "And I have to tell you there was nothing about that recital that wasn't world class!"

My thoughts are that we are really REALLY lucky that PentaTone was able to sign her on, because she does, she really does get the music across!

There is also a "one sided" interview in Deutsche and in English. One sided in that you only hear Arabella talking, not the interviewer.
