I am not processing the DSD signal at all.
Straight DSD>Analog.
I have no need for bass management, but most of what I listen to is multi-channel and all my speakers are full range.

If you want to use signal processing you will be converting to PCM.

With the 980H/TX-SR805 I can always send DSD and then use the receiver to convert and process or not. After quite a bit of listening I am finding I most prefer the receiver set to DSD DIRECT with no processing.

Thanks for that. Just to add an important note from my PS3 experiences..that the 805 can only use Audyssey for signals of 96kHz or less, so even if you DID think about using a processed signal, you would not get the full benefit of the resolution of SACD, which transaltes in the PCM realm to 192kHz (this is assuming that the DSD signal is translated to 96kHz PCM as opposed to the full 192kHz, to allow DSP processing to take place - maybe the 805 gives you a choice in some menu setting - have nto foudn any DSD options though, so I'm assuming it converts to 192kHz if you do not tell it to do DSD-direct, and further if you switch on Audyssey or other, it strips it down to 96kHz).

Confused? Sorry!

Hello, I just purchased the DENON AVR-2808CI over the weekend ($468! at many websites) and the manual claims it supports SACD DSD over the HDMI. This will be nice when I go "that way", but the SACD regular playback in PURE DIRECT MODE kicks royal ass. The discs I've played thus far ("Avalon", "Brothers In Arms", "DSOTM") are as if I was hearing them for the first time. No tech talk from me, sorry. Thank you.

I found a statement that the Pioneer DV-48 (DV-600-AV-S) is a better buy than Oppo DV-980H, link: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/archive/index.php/t-1063874.html, when the criteria is to use the players for transport only. The point is that the price is lower and that the pioneer can play all the disc that the Oppo can, except decoding HDCD. What do you think about that statement?

It would seem to me, providing HDCD is not too important, that you would have more money for SACD's! :)
