I've started getting skipping on two of my SACDs on my SOny 555ES (european). THe discs are Miles Smiles and Headhunters. Just a little bit annoying to say the least, all this talk of fans etc is a bit scary.

It seems the consensus this is a problem with the players, rather than the discs. Is there anything else I can do to stop it?

I really love this player, for both red book and the relatively small number of SACDs I have, I'd be pretty desolate if it needed replaced. Of course with red book there are no such problems and it works flawlessly.

Wow, do I feel like a complete douchebag or what! :)

I recently added a media center PC to my setup. A silly little PC with a external PSU. Once I turn that sucka off the skipping stops completely. Turn it on again and the skipping occurs again.

It would appear this is down to power, at least in my setup.

Hello
my first post, although I visit sa-cd.net almost dayly !!

just to tell you that I also have troubles with my XA9000ES and some SACDs :

Genesis 70-75,
Elton John SACDs,
some others...

The player is unable to find the multichannel layer...Sometimes I manage to acces the MC layer, by playing the 2Ch layer and by switching to the MC layer "on the fly".

But for both Genesis and the Elton John SACDs, no way !!!

very annoying...

with the XA5400ES, no problems, but now that means that I have to change my amplifier...

I have one SACD which won't play a particular track on the SACD layer in either my Marantz DV7001 or PS3. Its the Police disc Zenyatta Mondatta. Tracks 1 to 9 play flawlessly track 10 plays for about 30 seconds and then skips to track 11 and plays the rest of the album without problems. When I first played it in the Marantz I thought the player might be faulty, But when I put it in the PS3 (connected to the TV at the time) message was displayed on TV saying DATA stream corrupted, never had that message before. As it cost a fair amount I am loath to rebuy in case its a batch fault and I get stung again. The CD layer however plays fine in both players. Seems to be a pressing fault of some kind but I wonder how common this is. Anybody else aware of this type of thing. It's my first SACD failure in approx 200 discs but I wonder how common this is in view of the fact that SACDS are becoming rarer and command high prices

Can anyone report about a SACD player with zero reading problems over the years?

Thank you.

Thank you.

There are over 250 SACDs in my collection, which have been played through my Sony DVP-NS999ES DVD/SACD player. In four plus years, it has mistracted/misread only two of those SACDs (Handel: Concerti grossi Op. 3/Harmonia Mundi, and Mahler 5th Symphony/Zander/Telarc). Both discs were replaced and the problems disappeared, so I assume they were defective discs and not the fault of the player. The only problem with the player occured last month. The door wouldn't open or close. It was replaced under warranty and all is well.

Almost any of the earlier versions of Sony SACD players seems to have problem with SACD discs. Sometimes it helps changing the optical pick-up (in your case KHM-230) sometimes it doesnít help indicating there is another problemÖ I have noticed that some discs from certain labels are more sensitive than others. Usually the problem occurs when reading the TOC of the disc. Hopefully the newer ones like the XA5400 are better/more stable.

Hi,

I have the Sony XA777ES, that lately have some issues with the SACD.

After a while as it is turned on and stays like that, about a 2 - 3 hour period it does not recognize the hybrid discs sacd part. The same disc that was put in after switch on and played fine does not work anymore as the player was kept switched on. On a new SACD disc did not read the sacd part either. Trying several other ones that worked fine before failed as well. Putting in a sacd only was read fine and played fine, however putting in any hybrid ones just failed and found only the cd layer.

I switch off the player and waited some time and it was working again and finding the hybrid disc´s sacd part.

It is definitely a heating issue and I think it can be a problem after changing the laser, as the processor will still be overheated(?) after a while.
I had no problem with my other sony 790XB but I don´t use that very often.

I just realized this event the previous weekend when the player was used more and I was using sacds after each other.
I have tried to switch off the player and on again to see the result after the reset, but still was a problem. That´s why I think this is related to heat.

I have the player next to my nakamichi pa7 that generates a lot of heat, and as well on top of it there is the ca7 that also heats it from the top or it cannot really get the cooling right.
Maybe one possibility is have the player separated and then check if it is still the case after some time.
My player is the US one 110V that I am using with a transformator from 220V to 110V. But as it is working 100% while it is cold, I don´t think it is related to the transformator...
If you can suggest something would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Gyula

I agree, it has something to do with the heat and Sony players. I donít know if there is a combination with the optical pickup and the main board or version of firmware.
Itís seems that many Sony players are calibrating the pickup when powered on (I think the 777 is doing this). When the player is cold this usually works well. But when the player is warm it fails with some hybrid discs in my case.
I might also have something to do with the fact that hybrid discs are sensitive for scratches etc. which they tend to get over time.

HI,

So the outcome for me was the laser error. When the player was getting warmer the laser diod was getting less efficient and missed the focus, so it needed to be changed. I have oredered it from ebay for around 90 EUR and since changing it works fine !

You have to open the player while the cd tray is out...:)
