I've been thinking about that. You know, I'm a big fan of the format and spend a lot of time listening to SACDs. But I just can't see a scarce SACD being worth what we used to pay for Shaded Dogs and Mercs back in the day (and some people probably still do, despite all the vinyl reissues).

Well, it's strange. I've definitely seen up (way up) "spikes" in SACD market price, and also drops.

But SACD is a bit unique in that it sits somewhere between CDs (almost noncollectible, cheap - except for MoFi, it seems) and LPs.

That and so few SACDs were made of some titles. And there's very little issue of "condition" (i.e., either it works or it doesnt -- don't get me wrong, i've got a stack of SACDs taht arrived scratched beyond playability from eBay)

Believe it or not, there's still an Elcaset "scene". Even the *boxes* to some *blank tapes* of Elcasets have sales value. (For some reason.)

Vinyl wears or warps; Tapes disintegrate... For the most part, SACDs will stick around and stay playable (unless they're made by Crest) so I can see them being pursued for a while.

The other thing is, I don't think SACD players will become all that rare. So many DVD players have it as an option, the playability of SACDs i think will endure way beyond Elcaset.

While I agree that they likely won't fetch the prices of rare vinyl, I do think they'll outlast rare vinyl (though remain in much more of a niche). I just don't see SACDs becoming ten cents in the bargain bin either.

CD non-collectible?

There're plenty of CDs that are collectible. You did see that CD of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" on ebay sold for over $2,000 earlier this year, right?

I became very excited when I first found DVD4music almost a year ago now. all those rare discs at sort of reasonable prices. However when I found that he was advertising records that were simply not available as SACD my suspicions were aroused. Looking at the prices on amazon and e bay he seemed too good to be true. I found somewhere on the net a whole section devoted to complaints about this dealer. I thought by now he would have gone out of business, but it seems he is "selling" on Amazon and has had reasonable feedback upto3 months ago when I last saw his name there.

Thier are several of HV's disc I would buy but suspect others have first claims. It could be helpful if they are deleted from your libary when sold so we know what was still available.

On the subject of rare and oop discs and silly prices one Amazon seller advertised a sacd disc for sale which I paid for, never arrived several e mails later still advertising it for sale, eventually got my money back but thought that amazon prohibited such behaviour, never will use that co again.

Strange format time I still have a DCC tape deck and a large collection of Laserdiscs (the laserdisc machine has recently died) and was recently offered an hitachi CED videodisc player with about 100 discs !!! I was almost tempted

Maybe Zeus can add a 'blacklist' to his website. I think DVD4Music will be on the top.

If they're a third-party Amazon seller, simply rate them. I only endorse the linked vendors.

Wasn't that kind of a farce? What was so special about that one anyways?
