Is there any reason why any of the six people who voted for this disc havent provided a review.
Im staggered why no one hase done this review before.I have used it as it was intended as a demo disc and failed to hang onto it after each demo. That surely speaks volumes.(hence no detailed review by me)

I got this recently on ebay. Great price ($7.50) and certainly a rarity. Is Channel going to come out with this?

Doubtful, it's quite old and copies extremely hard to find now and by no means a classic; nevertheless a tremendous source for all those encores that the BFO play in concert, especially the Peasants Polka. It was a promotional disc and never intended to be commercial even if Ivan had personally approved every piece.

If you have a copy hang on to it is the best advice and if you haven't but would like just keep tracking e-bay although one suspects you'll meet fierce competition.

As for a review, is there any point in reviewing any collection that always includes the good, the bad and the downright ugly? It's really one for the Fischer collectors.

Well, since 16 out of 16 like the disc I would assume this disc is not for Fischer collectors only. As for tracking it on ebay, I bought it and there was no fierce competion fortunately.

Probably rather more than 16 Fischer collector's in the world, perhaps more than 16 on here even?

If it was offered at a BIN price you are a very lucky man and the seller probably unaware of it's value...

I don't consider myself a good enough reviewer to share my experience here so I'll stick to a recommendation.

I intend to build an Iván Fischer SACD collection but have made little progress with that so far. So far only this one, Dvorak: Slavonic Dances - Fischer and Dvorak: Symphony Nos. 8, 9 - Fischer. I guess it doesn't help that I'm not that much into Mahler yet. I play Budapest Live with above average frequency; quite often in fact.

Then again, I have a special relationship with Budapest (where I met my other half) and with this SACD (I was involved in its release). I've also seen Fischer + BFO perform at the Concertgebouw a few years ago, with a set list* quite similar to this track list, and I was amazed to hear him do the speeches in between the performances in Dutch. Very interesting to learn he was married to a Dutch wife for a long time.

I have never seen much a bidding war for this title on eBay. Unfortunately I've run out of all my spare copies so I can't make anyone else happy with it anymore.

The only 'extra copy' I still have is a far rarer (near-unique) test copy of the same recording, with Fischer's speeches (in English) still in there, as well as the applause, and one extra track.

* sorry, not sure: is this common vocabulary in classical music too?

Hmmm. The one with different stereo and MCH tracking? That's what I have.

That's the one. Evidently a test pressing.
