Has anybody compared this to the Analogue Productions release? Trying to figure out which one to get.

I have yet to receive the Analogue Productions SACD, but I'm very confident that it will sound better than the Universal release mastered by Rudy van Gelder (which isn't that bad).

I will post comparison once I get it.

I am interested in this disc and I have 3 choices.

HFPA Blu Ray Audio, stereo mix included.

Hybrid Stereo SACD mastered by Kevin Gray

Japanese SHM SACD, stereo ?

Anybody have any experience?

I own the domestic Universal SACD version (good), the AP Kevin Gray SACD (better) and the Classic Records HDAD version (96/24 & 192/24 DVD~A) Best.

Haven't heard the BD~A nor the SHM~SACD......sorry, Markie Mark!

Why don't I just purchase the entire catalog of DVD~A? I'm joking, but...

And why did they stop with that format? Everybody on this site gives them, for the most part, great reviews.

Whereas SACD versions can sometimes create a lot of controversy as different people have different experiences.

The real screws were put to DVD~A when they were about to release PF Dark Side of the Moon on DVD~A 5.1 and SONY paid Capitol Records some obscene amount of money to release it instead on SACD where it went on to sell more than one million copies ....or so the story goes.

They were also using chintzy Panasonic DVD~A players for reviews in the higher end publications which were crappy performers. Had they used the Meridian 800 to do the reviews, the tides would certainly have turned but at the time the Meridian was $10K and the 861 processor was $26,500 (and the 800 had to interface with the 861 via three coaxial cables).

I've shared this story before on this forum but Robert Harley of Stereophile reviewed the Meridian 800 DVD~A and an Accuphase $28K SACD stereo player and his remark was: The sound of the Meridian 800 playing RBCDs is better than the Accuphase is capable of playing SACD. Thought that quote was a hoot.

The biggest problem, IMHO, plaguing BOTH formats was a failure to properly market both systems and of course, at the time, home theaters weren't as ubiquitous as they are today.

Timing IS everything!

A Love Supreme was intended as a stereo mix at the time of recording (1964). The HFPA Blu-Ray disc includes a French radio recording of the only complete live performance of the work (Antibes Festival), and that recording was done with monaural equipment.

I have the 2002 Deluxe 2-CD edition that was derived from the original two-channel master tape, and includes the French live performance. The sound quality is excellent, much better than any version I'd heard up to that point. Assuming the same sources were used for the Blu-Ray, I'd opt for that version in this case, because the live peformance is not included on Analogue Production's SACD.

Thanks Mark, I trust your sound advice.

I have that Rudy van Gelder SACD, in my opinion it is really BAD. Hard, mechanical sound.
