Could you please tell me what SACD you're referring to? I guess I missed something somewhere, because I have no idea what this "Marinsky SACD" is. Thanks.

Shostakovich: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 15 - Gergiev

One of the best sounding SACDs in my collection, perhaps even the best sounding. Gergiev doing Scheherazade for Mariinsky in my humble opinion should be superb. I only have one Mariinsky DSD recording so far, however I am closely watching this new exciting label.

I've only listened to First Symphony, and the recording is as spectacular as Theresa says. It reminds me, in sonics, of Sheffield Lab's The Moscow Sessions. Which was one of the best recorded records, back in the day. Everyone should buy it, we really need to support the Mariinsky label.

And get them to record Scheherazade...

Agreed !

I does remind me of my Sheffield Lab Direct Cuts too.

Certainly pure, clean and open!

I am even going to buy the 1812 disc I think.

Seems to have gone off-topic?

I find it interesting how this poorly reviewed SACD has suddenly gone way up in price, to over $140. Just a couple years ago this was selling for around $8 when it was still discontinued several years previously to that. What has happened? Have people suddenly realized that this is really a great recording and/or performance?

Fantasy prices, fueled by greed and set by non-music lovers ...

I agree that these are fantasy prices. On the other hand, if I own a copy which I like but would part with for $140, does that really make me a greedy philistine?

I think if someone was truly not into the music they'd list it for $40 and hope it sells for that amount.

To be clear, my copy is not listed on Amazon. And I understand disliking high prices on the secondary market. But I don't think this necessarily implies bad things about sellers.

And I have a simple answer: just don't click buy it now. Someone else might think it's worth it even if you don't.

In the meantime, if someone asked me, "don't you want to rethink it and sell it to me at retail even if you lose potential profit", I'd laugh in their presence. Ya, sure, and I want to give up the potential of 100s of dollars.

Agreed, SAM!

I suppose for diehard collectors, fantasy prices are de rigeur. Me: I'll await reissue on BD~A or do without or better yet, select another comparable/better version at sane prices.

As it is, the economy is still not up to par and the basic cost of living is positively outrageous.

Just glad I didn't spring for a dCS Vivaldi.......talk about fantasy?

BTW, I paid about $12 for Gergiev's version of Scheherazade and have NO regrets...but, $426*.....ever hear of The Thief of Baghdad?
