Geohominid wrote in his review Bach: Johannes Passion - Concerto d'Amsterdam: "A regrettable omission, however, is that the texts themselves are only provided in German."

Considering this is a Dutch production from a Dutch label (as is the other St John's Passion on SACD Bach: St. John Passion - Netherlands Bach Society -- coincidence?) I would imagine if the texts are in one language that is not English, they'd be in Dutch.

Can anyone who owns this disc confirm whether the booklet is in German or Dutch? It would make quite a difference for me (while I can imagine it'd be tricky to tell for anyone who speaks neither language).

Something strange is going on here. I just received my copy of this title. Same catalogue number, same UPC as the one described on the Amazon site and on the site of the retailer I bought it from as an SACD release, but it's NOT an SACD, only a regular CD. All the online retailers I've checked also list it as an SACD but the Quintone web site now lists this title, and all of their other titles that I have looked at, as stereo CDs. What is happening here?

Not sure: The Quintone's are listed on the Sony site: http://www.super-audiocd.com/software/disc.php?dno=7212020016 which I gather is some sort of registry of SACD's perhaps those pressed in Japan. At any rate using the main list http://www.super-audiocd.com/software/?hc=100&cnt=100 there are I think 9 Quintones, Stereo and McH listed for March release.

Another example is Aliud, they release ACDBH-054 which originally had SACD logos on their cover art on their website, was manufactured as a CD originally (and 192/24 download fron LInn) but now seems to be issued as an SACD hybrid as of January? and has started appearing in online vendor lists as an effective SACD reissue. http://www.super-audiocd.com/software/disc.php?dno=7211120018

If i look closely at the image of the album cover of the Bach at the Quintone site there appears to be a murky SACD logo in the grass so to speak.

Can you confirm that the barcode is 9789078740056? If a barcode is recycled the policy is that all links get pulled from this site immediately. Thanks.

The barcode is 978078740056. If the SACD logo is that whitish blob I see on the album cover image at the bottom of the cover in the middle, then my copy doesn't have it.

The review on this site is dated March 14, 2008, but amazon.com gives a release date of February 28, 2012. It does rather look as if Quintone has reissued the recording as a standard CD under the original catalogue number. I've written to them asking for an explanation.

It's a real shame if this is what has happened. From the bits I've sampled this seems like an excellent performance and recording of the rarely heard 1725 version.

Have a look at the Naxos catalog for Feb 2012. Clearly marked as hybrids?? Bar code easily zoomable.

Here's a cover image which matches my copy. Note the absence of the SACD logo and the presence of the description "2CD" under the title. Barcode and catalogue number, as I said, are identical.

Edit: My apologies, the image didn't come out as big as I expected. But if you look closely I think you can still see the differences I'm referring to.

I too have sent an e-mail asking them to please confirm if this is indeed an SACD title..I would love to have this recording as the samples I have heard on Quintone's site sound superb

Cheers,

Here's a further piece of evidence, which I think tends to confirm earlier suspicions.

This is the Wayback Machine's archived copy of the Quintone web site from April 2009:
http://web.archive.org/web/20090427093923/http://www.quintone.nl/#

Notice that the banner says "Superaudio Classical Records" where the current web site says only "HD Music Productions". And more particularly, notice that individual listings are described as SACDs in the archived version of the web site while today's web site shows them as CDs.

It does look as if Quintone has reissued its entire SACD catalogue on redbook CD only without changing the catalogue numbers or barcodes, and while allowing now incorrect descriptions of its products as SACDs on other retail web sites to persist.

"Quintone" is not a great name for a company that issues only stereo CDs. Perhaps they should rename the company "Duotone".
