Anyone know the music of this composer? I wonder if BIS or PentaTone or Mariinksy will ever record one (or more) of his works?

Assuming you meant Nikolai Kapustin, yes, his piano music is quite popular these days, perhaps after Marc-Andre Hamelin's pioneering work. In recent piano competition here you simply couldn't avoid hearing Kapustin's jazzy piano pieces. I would call Kapustin's music entertaining and effective, but not very serious or deep. Not that music should always be serious.

The non-profit music disc is fantastic.

I fear if BIS or Pentatone did record a disc dedicated fully to his music it would have yet ANOTHER recording of the etudes, though.

Would be REALLY nice to have a commercial recording of the Piano Concerto No. 4...

Being an unrepentant accolyte of violin music, has anyone heard the opus 141 violin concerto who would care to comment?

Yes, no more Op. 40 Etudes, thank you very much. They're great, but they've been recorded to death lately.

Other than an old mono LP from the '60s of Kapustin's early jazz stuff, I don't know any recordings of his orchestral music. Maybe his more recent orchestra compositions are just as corny and dated as his early stuff, but I'd really like to find out for sure.

The Non-Profit disc is a hoot. Best performance of Op. 40 I've heard, especially Etude #8. How in h*ck can he play it that fast? Not possible!

http://www.nikolai-kapustin.info/ has a concert recording of the aformentioned PC #4. There's a YouTube video of I believe Cello Concerto No. 2, though I think it's only excerpts. The Violin and Piano Concerto is there somewhere too, but I'm not sure it has orchestra accompaniment...

My, what a treasure trove of good vibrations. Thanks much.
