Performance:   Sonics:
With this second volume, the Liszt/Richter coupling once again subjugates us both in interpretive terms and as a “sound resurrection,” for the DSD remastering based on master tapes is stunning in its fidelity. The program is copious (nearly 80 minutes!) with Scherzo and March S.177, Mephisto Waltz N°1 S.514, Ave Maria S.182, three pieces from Poetic and Religious Harmonies S.173 (Thought on the dead, Funérailles, Andante Lagrimoso), Mephisto Polka S.217, Gray Clouds S.199/7, and Forgotten Walzes N°2 S.215. “The pianist is only the performer who must translate to the letter the composer’s intentions. He must add nothing to the score. If he has talent, he must allow us to perceive truth in the work, which is already a miracle in itself… He must not dominate this music but dissolve himself in it.” Thus spoke Sviatoslav Richter…
