Performance:   Sonics:
The sonics here are first rate. Definitely one of the best sounding SACDs I've so far listened to. The Pentatone albums seem to be recorded close and this suites more than well for the music presented in this fine disc. Multichannel mix is once again, as in most Pentatone discs, quite conservative. This kind of approach seem to be approriate for live and classical music, but sometimes I wish they'd make more excessive use of rear channels, like successfully done in many rock and pop SACDs (Beck's Sea Change, PG's Up etc).

No complaints on the performance either. Oboe has a kind of haunting and dreamy sound. Britten's and Prokofiev's pieces presented here use successfully the eerie voice of oboe. Opening track, J.C. Bach's Quartet in B flat, is lighter, almost cheerful piece of music which sets a nice, relaxed mood for the whole disc. Overall, an excellent SACD.
