Lot's of hype on this release from Concord Picante label. Release was supposedly in September 2003 but just now showing up in stores here (NC) and on the college and smooth jazz radio stations here. Maybe we are just behind the times, after all we do have to pipe in day light. This disc claims it's: hybrid, CD, SACD, DSD, SURROUND, 5.1, and Enhanced. All I know for sure is it will play on an SACD player in 2ch or 5.1 MCH. But first pass through my Outlaw 950 pre/pro resulted in 2.1 ch sound even though it was set to 5.1 direct analog input and the SACD player was sending 5.1 MCH analog out (?) A quick soft boot of the pre/pro and I had glorious 5.1 surround sound. Have to be straight up, I don't like where and how the bass is mixed on this one. Seems like all the bass was coming from the sub (?) and none from the fronts or rears. Lots of latin percussion coming from the rears. Interesting if not varied mix of tunes and music styles here but all done with a latin flavor. Poncho even sings on one or two cuts. To me it does not live up to the hype but there are a few choice cuts anyway. I like Conga Blue and older Poncho discs much more than this one.
