Review by Marc P March 1, 2003 (1 of 2 found this review helpful)
Performance:   Sonics:
Karel Kraaijenhof is a local hero in the Netherlands. He played on the royal wedding of our future king with his Argentinean girlfriend.
The now princes Maxima is the child of a former member of the military government of Argentina. As such the Dutch government decided he was not a welcome guest on the royal wedding.
During the wedding Karel played an Astor Piazzolla track called Adios Nonino. The song is about the loss of Astors father and is a very important track for the people of Argentina and Maxima. In fact the princes herself was involved in the re-arrangement of this song for the royal wedding, it had to be fitted into a 4.5 minute track instead of the original 8.5 minutes.
Well Maxima cried a forever stole the heart of the people of the Netherlands.
It was the most re-run bit of television of the year 2002.
This made Karel into a local hero and made Tango a popular type of music in the cold country of ours.
This album went multi platinum and the single Adios Nonino went to number one in the pop charts.

So far the history part, now to the album itself: it’s great. There are so really nice Tango pieces on here. The hard en heavy stuff is there and the really melancholic stuff is there as well. Everything one could and should expect on a Tango album.
The recording of this album was in the hands of the Polyhymnia crew so one can only say it’s up to the highest standards possible. I’m sure Tango isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but it certainly would be a loss if you never tried it.
