Performance:   Sonics:
If "modern" and "20th Century" make you clutch your purse in fear, then "degenerate" probably won't reassure you. But as Dan Davis says in his editorial, these are NEOCLASSICAL works. I confess I hesitated to mix this disc in with my classical & romantic SACDs, but curiosity got the better of me. This isn't fingernails-on-chalkboard; it isn't even depressing (a miraculous result considering the death-camp origins). I feel quite, quite happy listening to this music, again and again -- and I feel ashamed that I lingered briefly on Goebbels' side of the Entartete-Musik controversy. The Prazáks play exquisitely (cf their beautiful Schubert Quintet/Quartet 7). The acoustics are intimate and clear: lots of pizzicato with audible fingertips, bass enjoys equality with the higher registers -- LOTS OF SPACE surrounding.

Another winner from Praga.
Superb performances for superb music.
Schulhoff excells in these chamber pieces. The music is quite intimate in inspiration, but very colourfull in rythm and timbres.
Excellent sound and spatianl definition.
