I was thrilled when I heard this disc first time: Jennifer Pike is excellent young violinist, and Andrew Litton and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra are good accompanists.
The disc's most interesting part is Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47. I have heard maybe hundreds recordings of this work, but Pike's version raises the highest place. Firstly, her plays this concerto with young artist's energy. Old masters - for example Isaac Stern and David Oistrakh's - pretty good recordings are sometimes too slowly and coldly. Secondly she doesn't afraid Concerto's difficult things, and her's technique is breathtaking: last movement's harmonics and staccatos are like laser, and Chandos label's recording captured Grieg Hall's surrounding acoustic very well. Thirdly Andrew Litton conducts other pieces nicely.
This is excellent introduction to Jean Sibelius' music, if you owned good surround listening equipment. Bravo!
