A nice job of remastering a multi-track recording (24bit/48khz) by the Emil Berliner Studio using AMSI II process, the surround space is well defined, the clarity is not at the level of modern direct-to-DSD but still very good, the orchestra close but not too close, and it is played with force or ... more |

The surround mix is done very well. The overall effect is "holographic", the music seems to come from behind the speakers!
There are mixes which pinpoint artists (use 1 channel only, or mostly 1 channel with just a little carry-over into other channels), but this mix somehow puts more sound into ... more |

The sound quality and surround realism is fantastic. There seems to be a perfect recording of what is actually happening in the studio, including non-musical sounds, such as saxophone keys clapping, fingers on the strings of the viola, etc. The mch mix is among the best I know, and Delbecq explains ... more |

Excellent sound and accurate surround mix across all channels.
There is real rythm and it is melodious, despite the "experimental" classification he gives himself. "How insensitive" is borrowed and beautifully rendered, but the rest are his compositions, sometimes rapid and jazzy, other times ... more |

Very enjoyable performance, the piano and violin are equally balanced, they interplay with identical or opposing melodies, there is sometimes romance, sometimes drama: it's all very well done. The surround mix is correct, the sound is airy and true, the instruments come into the living room, but ... more |

DSD, thanks for the info.
Claude, I am confused...
I guess you are saying, Sony is releasing DSD archived music as plain CD, but it is not an analog recording, right?
And Miles Davis was remixed to 5.1, and this was written on the liner notes of a plain CD, without the possibility to actually buy or listen to it? Is that useful information for ... more |

Yes, it's sad that DSD recordings are not released as SACD... it follows what some believe DSD was developed for, archiving to replace tapes, not necessarily for consumers.
Aren't such recording always multi-track anyway? If yes, stereo is a mix, and mch could have been done almost as easily? Maybe too costly to redo and re-release? Maybe Telarc's ... more |

I guess this is inevitable: they release the disks one at a time, test consumer interest at each release, and then release the complete set again... Unfortunately, the sum of the whole is less than the sum of the individuals, and to make it even more attractive, it includes disks not released individually on SACD...
So some of us will end up ... more |
