We are not supposed to review the actual music, but I feel that some pointers are necessary. Linde was a great admirer of Benjamin Britten and nowhere is this more evident than in his second symphony, placed first on this sacd. Symphony no 1 timings: Janowski, 15.13, 8.31, 4.30, 16.13. Bychkov, 17.19, 8.46, 5.45, 18.21 (repeats are the same) As you can see fom the above this is a swift performance and right from the outset there is a sense of haste. If you have heard Debussy´s La Mer played by the great orchestras of the world, why would anyone want to hear it played by the Singapore Symphony? Have you heard another recording of the Tchaikovsky 3? The Järvi is one of the least imaginative I have heard and it doesn´t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Markevich, Dorati or Temirkanov, to mention only a few. ... more
