All three musicians playing here are masters of their instruments and the included tracks are excellent. Imaginative improvisation with spicy latin feeling. Two discs feature over two hours of amazing material and you can find this release at some stores for the price of a one regular SACD. The ... more
Norah Jones: Come Away With Me        (2 of 2 found this review helpful)

Great debut album from Norah Jones. There's no weak spots on the album, almost all tracks are equally excellent. The CD was already sonicwise a top notch, SACD is better, but not by a huge margin. MC mix is an improvement to stereo, although not very imaginitive.
Franz Schmidt: Symphony No. 4 - Kreizberg          (6 of 9 found this review helpful)

Schmidt's 4th symphony is dark and intense, quite heavy at times. I'm sure there's no problem with the performance. Overall, the sonics seem to be maybe a bit too nice for this kind of music. Keisuke Wakao, Oboe plays Mozart, Bach, Britten and Prokofiev          (2 of 3 found this review helpful)

Multichannel mix is once again, as in most Pentatone discs, quite conservative. ... more

Very enjoyable and natural sonics. The solo violin and the orchestra sound pure and rich. Sounds like the mics have been very close and the atmosphere is intimate. Rear channels are used succesfully for ambience. Center channel has been used effectively and all three front channels are nicely in ... more

DualDisc killing SACD?
February 16, 2005
Sony DualDiscs aren't really an issue with SACD. They are basically CD + DVD-V. The "advanced" resolution stereo is 16/48 and multichannel tracks, if there are any, are Dolby Digital. Furthermore, the CD playing time is limited to about 60 minutes. ... more
Discussion: Chopin: Etudes - Freddy Kempf
June 10, 2004
Anyone listened to this yet? It got pretty bad review on (6/6 out of 10/10), also on sonics: "BIS' ugly, glassy sound dips below the label's usual high standard of piano engineering." and the MusicWeb reviewer wasn't too excited about it either. Every BIS SACD I've listened to so far, has been excellent on sonics and very good ... more
