Ben Webster: Gentle Ben        (1 of 4 found this review helpful)
  September 1, 2014

Hard to recommend this from either a performance or sound viewpoint. It is second tier Webster, late in the game, a rather limpid MOR session in Ben's late, breathy ballad style. I don't not believe it, but for the life of me I cannot understand why anyone (outside of wanting MCH) would buy a BR disc instead of a download. The 24/192 is cheaper, there is for most no VAT or sales tax, does not have the silly rights management (which is where I suspect these BR discs are going wrong, in the authoring stage) and there is not ... more
Discussion: Mahler: Symphony No. 9 - Bernstein
December 15, 2014
The orchestra never hated Bernstein, how could they? They didn't know him, he only conducted there that one time late in his career. It is more likely the rivalry with Karajan that kept Bernstein out of Berlin, as during the 60's and 70's Bernstein and Karajan were very much recording rivals - Bernstein bigger on one side of the Atlantic for ... more
